Issues

Three things that actually get stuck when retail works with influencers

Illustration of near-identical product packs lining a retail shelf, with one lost among them

01

The product is buried, on the shelf and online

Among similar products, the reason to choose doesn't come through. People scroll past before reading anything.

The fixWe choose people close to the audience that uses the product and hand over, in writing, the scenes we want shown.

02

You can't see whether anything sold

Start without a coupon code or a tracking link and the relationship to purchases can never be counted afterwards.

The fixWe prepare per-creator coupons and tracking links first, and count it in purchases.

03

Ad spend is the only thing that grows

Stop the delivery and the revenue stops with it. You still haven't reached the point where people buy you by name.

The fixWe push the posts that grew into advertising while building words that stay in the search results after delivery stops.

Process

From selection through posting and measurement: how it actually runs in retail and e-commerce

Workflow

Shortlisting and negotiation through dispatch, reviewing the post and measurement, supported without a break

Phase01

Kickoff meeting
  • The products to sell and who buys them
  • Launch and event dates
  • Defining the conversion point

It starts with which product, to whom, and by when.

We ask about your lead products and price brackets, their share of revenue, and any launch or event dates, then decide what the casting is going after. We also confirm your approval process and how long it takes.

Phase02

Casting plan
  • A shortlist based on first-hand data
  • The split between gifting and paid
  • Secondary usage rights, planned in

We choose people close to who actually uses the product, on data we have checked.

We check recent average views, follower age and location, and their record in the same category, then present candidates split into segments from nano to mid-tier.

Phase03

Dispatch, filming and posting
  • Managing dispatch and delivery
  • Circulating the guidelines
  • Pre-publication review

From dispatch to the posting date, the schedule runs through us alone.

Dispatch, delivery and the posting date are ours to manage. We hand over guidelines setting out the scenes we want shown and the claims that can't be used, and check every post before publication.

Illustration of collecting insights and reconciling them with purchases

Phase04

Measurement after the post, and repurposing into ads
  • Insight collection
  • Reconciled with purchases and coupons
  • Into partnership ads

We confirm the result in numbers and turn what grew into the next sale.

We report the insights collected, and the per-creator coupons and tracking links, against purchases in your own shop. Posts that grew go straight into advertising.

FAQ

Questions we are often asked by retailers, e-commerce and consumer goods makers

Will creators post if we only send the product?

It depends on whether you need the post guaranteed. To be sure of the volume, use paid engagements with a posting obligation in the contract. Nano and micro creators work through gifting.

Doesn't adding #PR stop it landing?

On the data, the opposite. 63.0% said they trust a poster who discloses that something is advertising, rising to 77.7% among people in their twenties (Consumer Affairs Agency, FY2023).

Our product falls under pharmaceutical law. How far do you check the script?

Not just the caption. We check the text inside images, on-screen video text, thumbnails, pinned comments and the destination page. Prohibited claims are listed out in writing.

Can we repost the influencer's post on our own site and in ads?

With secondary-use permission in the contract, yes. But keep the PR disclosure on the repost. The most common misunderstanding is that disclosure at the time of posting makes it unnecessary when reposted.

Can influencer work be measured through to purchase?

If the counting is agreed before casting, yes. We give each creator a separate coupon code and tracking link and report them against purchase measurement in your own shop.

Have you worked in retail or e-commerce? Could we see an example?

We explain in detail how casting runs for comparable products when we meet. Our social media results in retail and e-commerce are on the Social media management for retail and e-commerce page.
