Issues

Four things that actually get stuck when restaurants post

Illustration of an owner watching a jagged bookings chart, with a full dining room at night and empty tables at lunch

01

Full at night, empty at lunch

The swings by day and time are large, and the usual fix for a quiet hour leans on price.

The fixWe film the dish that fills the seats you want filled at lunch, then push it into ads targeted at the hours you're quiet.

02

No time left to film

Prep before opening, peak after. Filming in a way that stops service gives you two videos a session.

The fixOnce or twice a month, timed to prep and the quiet hours. Two hours gives twelve videos.

03

The finished plate doesn't stop the scroll

A beautifully shot dish reads as an advert on its own. Among rows of similar photos, the thumb keeps moving.

The fixWe show the cooking itself through two first-person views: the chef's hands and the diner's eyes.

04

Nothing to choose you on but the hourly rate

On a job posting everyone looks the same on pay and shifts. How busy the kitchen gets and how breaks actually work never appear, so people leave once they find out.

The fixWe film one video from the staff side, starting with prep, and use it in your job ads.

Process

How POV video for restaurants runs, from concept to delivery

Workflow

Concept and shoot plan, filming, editing and delivery, all with us. All the restaurant provides is the time to film

Illustration of the planning phase, where the scenes to show and the shooting order are decided

Phase01

Concept and shoot plan
  • Taking stock of the signature dishes
  • Designing the first five seconds
  • Setting the order and the number of videos

Which moment of which dish to show gets decided before filming.

The signature dish and the prep behind it, the last drink of the night, the walk in from the door. We lay out the candidates, then set the first five seconds, the order and the number of videos.

Phase02

Filming
  • Twelve videos in two hours
  • POV filming (Insta360)
  • No talent, no faces

The arrangement is simply a camera added to the usual prep and service.

One camera operator traces the hands at the pass and the diner's route, at times that sit with prep and the quiet hours. Diners at their tables and delivery paperwork stay out of frame. That's the agreement.

Illustration of the editing phase: producing captions and thumbnails

Phase03

Editing
  • Cuts of one to two seconds
  • Built to keep the room sound
  • The restaurant's review process

We tighten it until people watch to the end.

Cuts of 0.8 to 1.8 seconds set the pace, while oil spitting and ice knocking never get buried under music. Anything on screen is checked against the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations before it goes out.

Illustration of the analysis phase: reading post data and iterating

Phase04

Delivery and reuse
  • As little as 7 business days
  • Secondary usage rights
  • Into ads, maps and hiring

After delivery, the one that got a response gets worked hard.

Concept to delivery takes as little as seven working days. Secondary use is included, so it can be reused in ads, on your Google Business Profile, on booking pages, storefront screens and job postings.

FAQ

Questions we are often asked by restaurants

Can you convey the food and the restaurant without putting anyone on camera?

It comes through without talent. POV moves the lead role from a person to an experience: the camera traces the diner's line of sight and the chef's hands, so it feels like sitting at that counter. If you do want faces, we plan that separately.

We can't spare anyone to film at peak. Can you still get the numbers up?

You don't need to spare anyone. We work around prep and the quiet hours, with one operator tracing the cooking and the diner's route. Two hours gives twelve videos' worth, so one or two batch shoots a month keeps eight posts a month running.

You'd be filming in our kitchen. What about hygiene and recipe confidentiality?

Confidentiality is the first line we draw. At the first meeting we check five things: no-film areas, confidential information, likeness, music and industry rules. Recipe sheets that reveal ratios, delivery paperwork and tables with other diners are not filmed.

Can we ask for production only? We'd like to post ourselves.

Production only is fine. Concept, filming, editing and delivery with us, posting and comment handling with the restaurant. If you want posting and analysis included, that becomes a social media management plan for restaurants.

How many videos do we need to start with? Have you worked with restaurants before?

You can start with a single video. For ongoing work there are three plans: five, eight or twelve videos a month. The restaurant work we have done is on this page.

Can the videos be used in ads, in the restaurant and for hiring?

All three. Secondary use is included, so they transfer to paid social, your Google Business Profile, booking pages, storefront screens and job postings. Swap the subtitles and they work in other languages too.
